Call for Volunteers: TSA Initiative Lead: Pride

Are you a current TSA Volunteer interested in becoming a part of the leadership team that shapes our initiatives and programming? Then come join us as an Initiative Lead for our Pride programming!

The TSA is looking for a new Initiative Lead to support the Society’s Pride Initiatives, which not only seek to make a more welcoming industry for all, but also to advance important research into Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ spaces and their spatial and urban characteristics. Working closely with your Co-Lead, TSA staff, and Pride Task Group volunteers, you will be involved in the planning and execution of our annual Pride activities, including our parade participation and Street Fair booth and exhibition, the expansion and diffusion of our Toronto Queer Spaces Database, as well as other advocacy and education events stemming from this program.

Who We’re Looking For

• Minimum 1 year volunteer experience with the TSA.*
• Strong familiarity with the TSA and its programming, particularly existing Pride initiatives.
• An outgoing and gregarious personality who loves chatting with people from all walks of life.
• A team player who enjoys working with others to bring a shared vision to life.
• Passion to make our industry more welcoming for all.

* Volunteer experience with the TSA includes a wide variety of roles, including committees, task groups, facilitators, guest speakers, operational volunteers, and other forms of meaningful participation with the Society. Experience does not have to be within the last calendar year, but we are looking for familiarity with the TSA’s current offerings and programming. We encourage all applicants who feel they meet this qualification to apply.

What is an Initiative Lead?

Initiative Leads are the volunteers responsible for the oversight and execution of the TSA’s initiatives and programs. Leads work closely with staff and other volunteers to ensure events are successfully executed.

Initiative Leads are responsible for:

• Setting the overall direction of the initiative.
• Ensuring the initiative is in line with the TSA mandate, vision, and guiding principles.
• Ensuring the initiative is making responsible use of TSA resources.
• Working with staff to support the implementation of the initiative, including during the planning process and day-of during the event(s) as needed.
• Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of initiative volunteers.
• Liaising as needed with community/industry representatives to support the implementation of the initiative (partners, sponsors, etc.).
• Being an ambassador for their initiative and the TSA in general (internally and externally).

Commitment

Initiative Leads are expected to attend any and all the meetings, orientations, and events directly associated with the initiative they are leading. While the planning for our Pride programming occurs throughout the year, the peak time for program execution falls in the spring in the lead up to Pride (approx. February – June), concluding in the first week of July following Pride Toronto weekend.

In addition, Initiative Leads are expected to attend a limited number of major meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, and meetings where their initiative is being discussed. The majority of these meetings currently occur after typical work hours. Leads are also always welcomed to join any of the monthly Executive Meetings, but their attendance is not mandatory.

In your cover letter, make sure to highlight your familiarity with the TSA’s Pride programming and why you would be interested in co-leading this work. If you have specific areas of interest (research, communication, community organizing, etc.), please make sure to highlight them!

Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview. Interviews will occur during the week of October 27 – 30, 2026.
